This poem is inspired by the movie Mona Lisa Smile.
A smile unfading
A look to pierce the soul
She's smiling
This is the mask she wears.
To cover up the pain and hurt she feels
A feeling of betrayal
Living in denial, she smiles
Hoping circumstances will change.
All she wants is love
A love that will last for all time
One that will last forever and ever
She wants to be in love
To be loved, to be held
In a warming embrace
a soft kiss on her lips
But she's denied this.
She smiles
She masks the needs and wants
With this soft grin
She hides it all.
She masks the sadness
Of a dying world
Pretending it doesn't exist
Holding back a tear.
She smiles
Mona Lisa hides all feeling
She smiles but is she happy?
Does it matter?
